EICR: Is this a C2 or C3 coded observation?

This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered by our Voltimum Experts.

Question:

Hi, I am carrying out an EICR and there is an old rewirable fuseboard present which is full to capacity. It has a fuse which has two ring mains connected to it. Cold you please confirm if this is a C2 or a C3 coded observation?
Thanks,
John

Answer:

Assuming no other departures were observed on the circuits during inspection and testing you would need to consider regulation set 314 ‘division of circuits’. Where you can achieve compliance with 314.1 (i), (ii), (iii), (iv), (v) and (vi) our guidance code would be a C3.

Where there are rewirable fuses the absence of RCD’s where applicable would need to be considered and comments on the full capacity of the consumer unit could be made.
