The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) has approved Zurich Certification as a scheme operator for competent electrical installers demanded by the proposed Building Regulations Part P.

Zurich recognised as approved “Part P” scheme operator

David Cowburn, Director of Zurich Certification commented: “We are delighted to be recognised as a scheme operator. By giving the industry multiple routes to compliance with the new regulations, the Government has demonstrated its willingness to give electrical installers the choice and flexibility they have been crying out for.

”Zurich, a market leader in competence certification within existing gas, oil and electrical schemes, will focus on supporting trade associations with the view of ensuring that the job of evaluating competence is not duplicated. Cowburn explained, “Many trade associations carry out independent checks on their members to ensure high standards. Zurich intends to work with these trade associations to take into account this monitoring work so that they can provide some or all of the Part P assessments on Zurich’s behalf.

”The first organisation to apply for Zurich approval is the National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers (NAPIT). The Association has already worked closely with Zurich on the UKAS accredited scheme to assess individuals within the electrical industry.
