Question: What travel payments am I entitled to?

Published: 18 July 2012 Category: News

Answer: Payments vary depending on the method of travel used. Read more below.

If you are provided with a company vehicle (or your employer pays for your travel, e.g. by the way of a Travel Card or rail fare) you would be entitled to travelling time for journeys over 15 miles in a straight line. You would not be entitled to Travel Allowance. If you use your own vehicle to get to a job, you would be entitled to both Travelling Time and Travel Allowance for journeys over 15 miles in a straight line. You can view the travelling time and allowance tables for adult operatives, or the tables for apprentices in Chapter 11 of the JOB Handbook. See link below. The first £1 of Travel Allowance is taxed – the remainder is tax free. However you have to use your own vehicle to be entitled to receive this. If you are sharing a vehicle, only the driver is entitled to receive the Travel Allowance. Travelling Time is taxed in the normal way.
