Question:
Within Guidance Note 1 reference is made to any enclosure having suitable mechanical & fire resistance properties, however within the regulations it refers to "Materials used for the construction of enclosures of electrical equipment shall comply with the resistance to heat and fire requirements in an appropriate product standard."
We currently have a proposal from an Italian bathroom 'pod' manufacturer where they are proposing to take all lighting wiring back to a centralised plastic wiring centre Gewiss GW44206 enclosing numerous Wago Item number: 221-413 COMPACT Splicing Connectors. The box complies with EN 60670-1 (CEI 23-48) and IEC 60670-22 (CEI 23-94) and states that it is available in different self-extinguishing materials (up to GWT 960 °C). It would appear to satisfy the phrase used in the the regulations as meeting a product standard, but not necessarily the phrase used in the guidance note of 'fire resistant'.
Would this satisfy the requirements of the regulations or would it need to be of metal construction as is required for consumer units?
Also, the Wago Item number: 221-413 COMPACT Splicing Connectors datasheet only references UL 486C & EN 60664 and makes no reference to British product standards. Are these items suitable for installation within UK installations.
