The launch of the Thorn Voyager LED Series will, says the company, set a new benchmark for lighting performance in the emergency lighting sector:
By using a range of sophisticated optics and product designs, the Voyager LED Series comprises of three fittings with a single 2.7W LED that will enable customers to comply with the legal requirements for the emergency lighting, as laid out in EN1838, the European norm.
The Voyager LED Area will deliver 0.5 lux to reduce panic and confusion in open areas such as offices, restaurants and schools.
The Voyager LED Route has an innovative cowl that pushes the light out in a linear fashion, helping achieve a 1 lux output along a designated escape route. Mounted at 4m, the Voyager LED Route can be spaced at intervals of 15m - more than double the spacing achieved by a conventional fluorescent solution.
Finally, in line with the requirement to light important safety equipment that is located away from a designated escape route to 5 lux, the Voyager LED Spot can be used to illuminate fire call points, fire extinguishers and first aid points.
All three fittings share the same sleek, minimal design and are available in a choice of white or silver finishes. Where full recessing is not possible, a compact surface mounted version can be specified, whilst installation in concrete ceilings becomes possible with an accessory recessing box. An optional bracket enables conduit mounting on BESA systems.
The nickel metal hydride batteries offer greater power capacity per cell and avoid the limiting 'memory effect' suffered by some other battery types, whilst a clever integrated heat sink helps contribute to the long life of the fitting.
In terms of emergency lighting testing requirements, the Voyager LED Series will come with Thorn's new E3TX self test addressable gear as standard. E3TX luminaires operate as self test when standalone and become addressable when connected to an Explorer testing and monitoring system, ensuring full functionality and legal compliance can be maintained at all times.
With the Voyager LED Series, 'emergency lighting has suddenly taken a huge step forward', claims the company.
