Q & A of the Day - Will this emergency lighting scheme meet current standards?
Question: We are currently involved in a project where we have been asked to provide emergency lighting through a central battery system. The suggestion is that the final connection to the luminaires is made by a plug-in ceiling rose, using a butyl flex to the luminaire, which would be situated within a service void and all other wiring would be FP200/MICC.

Our concern is that this may not comply with the current British Standards. However, having had a look into this, we cannot see anything that would not allow this configuration. Can you please advise?

Answer: We don't foresee a problem with your suggestion, but you may need to establish that the supply to the lights is via an AC system (through inverters) or, if DC, ensure that the plug-in ceiling rose is suitable via the manufacturer.
