Q & A of the Day – What 'After Diversity Power Requirements'?
Question: I have to supply 'After Diversity Power Requirements' to my local electrical supplier. Not being an electrician, I have no idea what this is. Also the supplier requires a breakdown of the proposed load, but this cannot be done as the building has not been designed yet. All I know is that it will be a 48-bed residential home with additional shared components that you would find in any hospital or nursing home - such as reception, stores, kitchen, staff offices etc. What is the best way to approach this?

Answer: Before your electrical distributor can provide you with a supply it needs to know what the kVA power requirements of your establishment is. When calculating kVA, 'diversity' may be taken into account for certain circuits.

You will need to contact your electrical contractor to ascertain what your power requirements will be following the design of the electrical installation. The contractor should be able to provide you with the information required by the distributors.
