Question: Please can you confirm whether I need to install an RCD to protect an external light, which is run in steel wire armoured (SWA) cable?
Answer: There is no requirement, unless it is installed for fault protection reasons - for example, if the earth fault loop impedance is unsatisfactory to achieve the required disconnection time under fault conditions.
