Question: I've just received a copy of the new BS 7671 IEE Wiring Regulations with amendment No 1 - 2011. It contains the new model forms for Electrical Installation Condition Report - formerly Periodic Inspection and Testing.

I have recently spent a lot of money on certificate software for 2008 certificates, so must I now purchase new software at more cost to myself, or can I still use my existing software.

Answer: The first amendment to BS7671:2008 was introduced for use by the electrical industry on 1st July 2011. A six month period is provided to enable those responsible for design and inspection and testing to become familiar with its contents.

The effective date for full implementation is given as the 1st January 2012 and installations designed after 31st December 2011 are to comply with the standard in full.
