Q & A of the Day - Must emergency lighting be provided within nursing home en-suite bathrooms?
Question: Can you advise whether it is necessary to provide emergency lighting within en-suite bathroom areas associated with individual rooms within a nursing home?

Answer: Under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, this requires a competent person to carry a risk assessment to identify the risks to people. The Regulations also require that the needs of people with disabilities be taken into account. This will allow the designer concerned, using his/her knowledge and experience, to make the final assessment (about emergency lighting) using BS5266 -1 for reference.
