Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This Question of the Day, an unusual one, concerns mobile agricultural machinery and whether it needs isolation. It is answered by SELECT:
Is it still necessary to install some means of isolation on machines working at these voltages? Can you direct me to where I can find electrical requirements for agricultural equipment?
Answer: Some form of isolation on machinery is normally very useful, if not essential. Our expertise, however, is restricted to electrical installation(s) in and around buildings, and would not normally include machinery.
IEE Guidance Note 7 (Special Locations ) is a useful reference document, but again does not particularly address machinery.
Some information will be available on product standards perhaps from BSI (www.bsi-global.com & www.bsigroup.co.uk) or BEAMA (www.beama.org.uk).
