Question: I've come across a small company that has very restricted access to its CU, and I was asked to provide a Periodic Inspection Report for the installation.
I felt that because of the access restrictions I could not guarantee the tightness of all the connections and have allocated this a Code 2 on the PIR therefore making this an unsatisfactory report and have informed the client that for a satisfactory report he should consider moving the CU to a place where access is unrestricted.
Have I been too strict with my judgement or do you think I have acted correctly on this matter?
Answer: I think you are correct in your conclusions as BS 7671:2008 does require that adequate access is provided for operation, inspection and testing, fault detection, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment.
