Easy9 Compact: “a great little versatile product”

Designed to deliver circuit protection with minimal intrusion into living spaces, Schneider Electric’s new Easy9 Compact promises the most flexible residential solution on the market, maintaining the simplistic design of the Easy9 range but at a smaller scale.

Ideal for rewires and upgrades, its compact size and low-profile cover meet aesthetical demands, allowing the unit to be positioned wherever necessary, while the curved profile, white finish and minimalistic markings ensure it blends into its surroundings.

The fully compliant BS7671 metal enclosure provides:

  • Compact design
  • Flexible incomer position
  • Flexible circuit configuration
  • Multiple cable entries
  • Offset, removable and raised DIN position
  • Low profile lid with finger grips
  • Earth continuity.

We got the Easy9 Compact into the hands of Kyle Ross, of Safezone Electrical, to put it to the test – and the results are in!

Here’s what Kyle had to say: “This consumer unit is up there with other leading brands, no doubt. It was great to work with and easy to install, with plenty of pre-pressed knockouts in various sizes and plenty of room inside to work with and keep everything tidy.”

The benefits are clear, but did Kyle have any complaints? “My only beef is that I hate the fly leads on the RCBOs – they’re a pain to keep tidy looking.” However, Schneider Electric has responded to this and explained that: “The flying neutral and functional earth leads are there to provide a safety connection and allow the device to trip even when the circuit neutral is lost.”

So, all in all, would Kyle be happy to use the Easy9 Compact for future projects? The answer is yes: “I wouldn’t have a problem using this brand again.” And would he be happy to recommend it to others? Another yes! “It’s personal preference but if this unit suits your ideas and budget, why not? I’ll always go for a quality unit and this is a great little versatile product.”
