Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This Question of the Day, about a domestic lighting circuit, is answered by SELECT:

Am I required to use a ceiling rose and put it above the ceiling, or can I use a junction box in place?
Answer: You can use either a suitable 'choc-box' or J201 type junction box. Both of these enclosures can be entered through the cut-out hole for the downlighter and are, therefore, accessible.
Alternatively, it is permitted to connect loop in/outs using the light switch as an enclosure.
