Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This one, concerning emergency lighting and responsible persons, is answered by Cooper Lighting and Safety:
Question: I've been told that, as a building user, it is my responsibility to provide emergency lighting. Is this correct?
Answer: It is correct that, as the building operator, it is your responsibility to provide a safe environment for staff and visitors. This should be validated by a risk assessment to ensure that - as a minimum - you meet the requirements of BS5266. This, however, is the minimum you should do, and additional coverage may be needed.
Note that you are personally responsible for providing this SAFE environment.
