Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This Question of the Day, concerning flexible conduit in screed, and minimum bend radii, is answered by Adapaflex:

Answer: Correct installation with the correct fittings can avoid problems. The installation, as you have described it, has been carried out very poorly. Non-metallic flexible conduit is very flexible, which can lead to it being overstressed - as is the case in this installation. There are minimum bend radii that need to be adhered to - and a whole range of fittings is available to make cable installation cable much easier.
In this instance, it appears that a standard contractor pack has been used - this comes complete with 10m of conduit and 10 straight fittings. The Adaptalok range carries a far larger collection of products to aid installation. The recommended method here would be to use some C90, plus 45 degree elbows, to remove the tight bends and allow for the easy passage of cables.
Attached is a sketch showing how the installation would look using these fittings. Please download our catalogue to obtain the part numbers or contact us.
