Recolight has published its Commitment to Sustainability for 2025. The document summarises the plans Recolight has put in place to reduce the company's own environmental impact, and to help others to do the same.

Recolight publishes commitment to sustainability and net zero impact statement for 2025

Recolight CEO Nigel Harvey explains the strategy: “Firstly, we try to put our own house in order. We put in place policies and strategies to reduce our own carbon footprint, to improve the circularity of what we do, and to encourage our suppliers of transport and recycling services to do likewise.”

“And secondly, we use our role as one of the UK’s leading WEEE schemes, to encourage others in both the lighting and waste sectors to also adopt more circular economy principles and to reduce carbon emissions.”

Included is the Recolight Net Zero targets:

  • A 50% reduction in Scope 1, 2 and Business Travel by 2030, from a baseline measurement of Recolight’s 2024 footprint.

  • A 25% reduction of carbon emissions per tonne of waste collected, by 2030, also from the 2024 baseline.

Commenting on the company’s work on reducing emissions, Harvey added “The scope 3 emissions of the transport of waste is by far the largest component of our carbon footprint. This is very largely driven by the need to use diesel powered HGVs. So, despite the herculean efforts of the Recolight team to reduce carbon emissions, this was not possible, and emissions went up in 2024 reversing some of the gains from the previous year. At Recolight, we think that honesty regarding such challenges is just as important as shouting about success.”
