Q & A of the Day – Caravan site does not comply. Which EICR code do I use?

A Voltimum user is concerned about the supply to a touring caravan site. SELECT has the answer.

Q & A of the Day – Caravan site does not comply. Which EICR code do I use?

Question:

Just tested a touring caravan site. Supply to the site is PME, and earth are connected from that to all 16 A pitch sockets, so no TT or TN-S. This does not comply with BS7671. Is it a C3 on EICR, or would it be C2 and needs to sorted?

Answer:

As per Section 708 in BS7671 prohibit the use of PME earthing for the connection of Caravans or leisure vehicles, the site buildings may be connected to the PME system. As per regulation 708.553.1.14, socket outlet protective conductors shall not be connected to the PME system but connected to an earth electrode.

From your description, a Code 2 would be appropriate.
