Question: In planning an electrical installation job, I'm looking to calculate the voltage drop for the particular cable we are going to install. The type of cable to be used is set out in a standard by the company concerned, but the only BS number given is 4727 Part 2 Group 08.
There is also a statement in the standard saying: ‘Cables with cores composing stranded conductors, insulated with EPR (Ethylene Polypropylene Rubber), and with HDPCP (Heavy Duty PolyChloroprene ) sheathing’.
This description doesn't seem to meet any of the specifications in Table 4A3 to use for the voltage drop tables. Could you please direct me to which voltage drop cable and current capacity table would be best to use?
Answer: The standard quoted is not a cable standard, but is a withdrawn standard, which in any case appears to be only a glossary of terms.
This withdrawn standard may have been replaced by IEC 60050-461:1984.
You should contact the manufacturer of the cable in question and ask the people there about voltage drop.
