Question: Could you please advise or comment on the correct method to follow for protocol and safety when isolating at the supply provider's terminals to a domestic or commercial installation?

Answer: If you are enquiring about how to remove from use an electrical supply at a property, then you would need to contact the distributor for that supply, as the equipment in place is the legal property of the distributor.

If you need to isolate the supply temporarily for installation / inspection purposes, then this can be achieved by a qualified electrician who should use the correct equipment and procedure following HSE guidelines on safe isolation in line with the Electricity at Work Regulations.

Clear guidance here is given in Best Practice Guide 2, Guidance on the Management of Electrical Safety and Safe Isolation Procedures for Low Voltage Installations'. This is published by the Electrical Safety Council (ESC), including the HSE, and is available as a free download from www.niceic.com.
