Q & A of the Day – Should this fusebox have another MCB to feed cooker outlet?
This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.

Question: Do I have to put another MCB in a fuse box to feed another cooker outlet, or can I come off the original cooker outlet?

Also, I'm going to move this, so can I join the meter cables, as well as the circuit cables, or do I have to re-wire from the meter?

Answer: Please refer to IEE Guidance Note 1, Appendix C. Specifically, look at the final paragraph regarding two or more appliances between 15A and 50A. These may be on the same circuit provided that they are in the same room.

Attention should be given to Regulation: 537.5.1.3 - 'Permitting a single functional switching device to operate two or more items of equipment intended to operate simultaneously'.

The joining of meter tails is permitted, provided that the requirements of Regulation 526 are met. Further, consideration must be given regarding live working.
