Q & A of the Day – Must I install one double-pole isolator for two consumer units?

This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.

Question: In a domestic dwelling, there are two new consumer units installed. One is for the existing house and one is for an extension to the house. Both are fed from a 100A connector block from the cutout.

Do I need to install one double-pole isolator for the consumer units, or can I install labels stating isolation of both supplies.

Answer: There are means of isolation on each consumer unit, and that is compliant with the requirements of BS7671:2008.

There is no formal requirement to have to install one switch in place for both units.
