Q & A of the Day – Must I gain the NVQ Level 3 Domestic Installers Qualification?
This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.

Question: Do I have to gain the NVQ Level 3 Domestic Installers Qualification when it comes in to force?

Also, will I need to take this course to become Part P registered?

Answer: For existing Qualified Supervisors registered with an electrical competent persons scheme, such as the NICEIC Domestic Installer Scheme or the ELECSA scheme, the new requirements are not retrospective. However, for new applicant Qualified Supervisors, there are five different entry routes for a proposed Qualified Supervisor.

One of the entry routes is the new EAL Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings; however there are routes that allow for older electrical qualifications, as well as a route for a proposed Qualified Supervisor to provide auditable evidence of knowledge and experience, plus a route for a previously registered Qualified Supervisor (subject to meeting certain criteria).

NICEIC Scheme Sales can provide more detailed information and can be contacted on 0870 013 0458 and the team are available Monday – Friday from 8.30am until 5.30pm
