Question: When carrying out a Periodic Inspection Report (PIR) on a domestic dwelling, if a shower is not protected by an RCD - simply an MCB - would this be a Code 1?
Answer: This issue is dependent on whether or not supplementary bonding is present. If this is in place, then the provision of no RCD protection would not be a potential or immediate electrical safety risk.
With the omission of the supplementary bonding, there is a risk to electrical safety under certain conditions - current regulations require all circuits of the special location to have RCD protection.
