Q & A of the Day – Do I class this addition to an existing property as a 'New Build'?
This Q & A is one of thousands posted in our Technical Expertise area, and answered on a daily basis by our Voltimum Experts.

Question: A customer of mine had a detached property. He has now built another property attached to the first, which - on the certificate - I can class as a 'New Build'. However, the customer has now included two ground floor rooms from the original property into the 'New Build'.

I have merely picked up the original wiring from these two rooms and extended them to the consumer unit of the 'New Build'.

My question is, on the certificate, do I class the whole of the second building as a 'New Build', or can I class it as a 'New Build' and an addition?

Answer: The second building will be classed as a 'New Build' and a addition to an existing installation.
