Q & A of the Day - Can we use an in-line fuseholder with this power track?
Question: We have installed a 63A power track and from it we have an un-fused 4mm cable supplying the floor box, which contains two twin outlets.

Once the floor box lead is plugged into the power track, it won't be possible to get back to it, as we have two twin outlets in the box.

Is it possible to use an in-line fuseholder at 20A behind the sockets in the floor box controlling the load at 20A down the 4mm cable supplying the floor box?

Answer: Firstly, the powertrack installation must be installed in accordance with the instructions provided by the manufacturer (Regulation 521.4 refers).

Secondly, the circuit must be protected by a suitably rated protective device as the load is not fixed and it is possible to draw in excess of the current carrying capacity of the 4mm cable with both twin socket outlets at full load.

It would be unlikely that an in-line fuseholder installed behind the socket outlet would afford sufficient accessibility therefore, an alternative solution should be sought.
