James McMullen asks a question about RCBO functional earths and how to terminate them. His question has been answered by the NICEIC (Theme – Distribution Equipment including cable management):
Question: Could you please tell me whether it would be acceptable to connect all the functional earths together in a consumer unit (CU) with multiple RCBOs, and terminate them in the same terminal, rather than in each earth terminal for each individual circuit?
Answer: It would be good practice that the RCBO functional earth is connected with the appropriate circuit protective conductor (CPC), as it would aid identification of the circuit concerned.
It would also allow limited interference with other circuits in the advent of inspection, testing and maintenance.
