Q & A of the Day - Can I bond under the boiler for the gas, and under the sink for the water?
Question: I have a block of five flats to rewire. The main gas/water meters will be located on the ground floor (outside), some 25/30m run from the furthest flat.

I know that one should bond within 600mm of the main. This is an impossible location for me to run the earthing cable - the nearest accessible place will be directly under the boiler for the gas, and under the sink for the water. Is this permissible?

Answer: Yes. It is sometimes impossible to meet all three conditions, so I would connect the bonding as you have suggested within the dwelling to the consumer unit MET.

You should also bond the pipework from the meters to the intake position within the communal areas.
