Q & A of the Day – To the 16th or 17th Editions?
Question: If a project was designed in 2007 under the 16th Edition Wiring Regulations, and the shell and core installation was installed to the 16th Edition, am I correct in stating that the fit-out contractor should also carry out his installation to the 16th Edition Regulation, and not the 17th Edition?

Answer: If the electrical installation was started prior to the 1st July 2008 and preferably completed by 31st December 2008, it can be installed and certified in accordance to the 16th Edition. This doesn't have to be the case though - ideally the client should be consulted about the requirements of the 17th Edition, and the design specification changed accordingly. Understandably, this may not be achievable or practicable.
