In a move designed to help electricians, particularly qualified supervisors of all Competent Persons Schemes, NICEIC had announced a 20% discount on City & Guilds 17th edition courses until the end of October 2009.
The decision comes after a review of the Part P scheme criteria by the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) management committee, which includes all Competent Person Scheme providers. EAS established that by the end of December 2010 all qualified supervisors will be required to have undertaken and achieved a qualification to the 17th edition of the Wiring Regulations.
“Now’s the time for those electricians or qualified supervisors who haven’t already updated their qualifications in line with the demands for 17th edition competence to do so,” says Alan Wells, Head of Electrotechnical at NICEIC Group. “We have discounted our City & Guilds 17th edition course in light of the decision by the EAS and to assist the industry in these challenging times.”
All businesses seeking competent person status are required to have at least one qualified supervisor, who has day-to-day responsibility for ensuring the safety, quality and technical standard of works undertaken and compiling the results of inspection, testing and verification for certification. Anyone who has become a qualified supervisor since the introduction of BS 7671:2008 on 1st July 2008 will already have completed the required training.
