One of the new Copper Development Association (CDA) topics is 'Power Quality in Low Power Installations'. This seminar is to be held in a number of places throughout the UK during the course of 2003. The next one is on Tuesday 23 September 2003 (tomorrow)
It has been the case for some time now that power quality is of prime importance, not just for consumers but also for utilities. A recent survey by CDA bears this out. According to this survey, in which 80 engineers were questioned, earthing, harmonics and power monitoring were the most wanted topics. Coverage of surges, discrimination of protection devices and voltage dip mitigation was also in demand.
The target audience:
For this reason, all these topics will be covered by the seminars, which are aimed at consulting engineers, electrical contractors and installers, and facilities maintenance staff. Content will include information on measurement techniques, both short- and long-term monitoring, mitigation methods and the role of the earthing system. The CDA says that Prior understanding of power quality issues is not required as introductory material will be presented in the 'Power quality - an overview' session.
Pan-European education and training:
These seminars are part of the Leonardo Power Quality Initiative, a pan-European education and training programme devised to address power quality problems which currently cost European businesses over six billion pounds a year. Power quality problems currently cost European businesses over £6 billion a year.
The presenters will be taken from the UK power quality partnership, formed by the CDA and three of the industry's key organisation's, Fluke (UK), Rhopoint Systems, and MGE UPS systems. The information to be presented is based on the contents of the 'power quality application guide' which can be found at www.cda.org.uk/pqp/pqp.htm along with an application form for the seminars.
