Mempower XP low impedance busbar trunking from Eaton MEM is now available in ratings up to 6300A to meet the needs of power distribution in modern commercial and industrial buildings, including those with heavy use of IT equipment:
New Building Movement Units are also available from Eaton MEM to accommodate differential movement in Mempower XP busbar trunking systems linking two buildings.
Mempower XP busbar trunking is used for main risers, bringing power to the different floors of high-rise commercial buildings, or for lateral distribution of power in commercial buildings and factories. It uses a tightly-packed 'sandwich' construction, comprising thin copper conductor bars separated by thin-film insulators. This results in a compact product with low voltage drop, low heat losses and improved short-circuit performance compared with air-insulated busbar trunking.
Full-size neutral conductors:
The new 6300A trunking, in common with other ratings in the Mempower XP range, has full-size neutral conductors as standard (some manufacturers use a half-size neutral). A double (200%) neutral is offered as an option for installations where loads are predominantly IT-based, resulting in neutral currents as high as 161% of line current. The earth bar is also fully rated and can be used as a low noise, 'clean earth' conductor if required. The high-conductivity aluminium enclosure is equivalent to a 100% copper bar and can be used as the protective earth conductor.
The new Building Movement Units can be produced for any rating in the Mempower XP range and allow differential movement, typically up to 70mm, in any plane. They comprise two short sections of busbar trunking joined by flexible conductors. The whole joint is enclosed in a box, with a bellows seal to one end.
A typical use for the Building Movement Units is in applications where busbar trunking passes between two buildings, having different foundations. Differential movement takes place in such buildings due to wind shear. Mempower Building Movement Units offer greater freedom of movement than conventional expansion joints, which accommodate linear expansion only.
Available in seven ratings:
With the addition of the new 6,300A rating, Mempower XP low impedance busbar trunking is available in seven ratings from 500A to 6,300A. This is complemented by the 40-125A Mempower LP and 125-630A Mempower MP ranges of low and medium power air-insulated busbar trunking. Mempower XP busbar trunking complies fully with BS EN 60439 Part 2.
