Q & A of the Day – Correct use of MK Prestige Compact dado trunking

Question: An electrical contractor has installed MK Electric's Prestige Compact dado trunking in the following manner:

  • IT cables run within one of the outside compartments.
  • Small power cables run within the centre compartment. Accessories (small power and IT outlets) are mounted on the face of the centre compartment using your proprietory trunking mounting frames - i.e. none of the accessories incorporate back boxes.

An IT specialist has suggested that the above arrangement contravenes IT / power segregation requirements. Can you please comment?

Answer: The product has been designed so that only the top and bottom compartments are used for running power / data cables. Then there are push out tabs in which to run your cables into the mounting boxes. The centre compartment has not been designed to run cables.
