MK Electric has further strengthened its cable management portfolio with the launch of Prestige 3D skirting – a system that delivers high quality, professional installations with greater ease and speed of fixing.
Prestige 3D skirting is an extension of the highly regarded Prestige 3D dado trunking range and its launch will bring similar levels of data transmission compliance, cost-effectiveness and fitter-friendliness to cable management contracts.
One of the primary benefits of Prestige 3D skirting is a marked increase of speed and ease of installation. The company has undertaken internal trials that – in a typical 15m2 office application – have found it over 30% faster to install than its own Prestige Plusä and similar competitor systems.
From the outset MK looked at what the market wanted and two needs were highlighted – the need for compliance with the CAT 6 structured cable standard and the desire for easier installation. Prestige 3D skirting meets both these demands, while maintaining the stylish, sculptured high aesthetic of Prestige Plus and Compact – and proving to be even better value for money by combining a host of new contractor-friendly features with existing price points.

To meet the need for CAT 6 compliance, Prestige 3D skirting features a number of system refinements including increased depth – 57mm – to allow 45mm deep back boxes that accept CAT 6 data modules; and the unique Data SweepTM. Data SweepTM is a special internal sprue that maintains minimum bend radius around corners and ensures CAT 6 integrity, provides cable capacity and removes the need for bulky corner pieces.
Greater space in upper and lower compartments, and the ability to use all three compartments, means more available cable capacity, compared to Prestige Plusä. In addition, all the system accessories including internal corner sections, flat angle and tees are fully configurable, as well as CAT 6 compliant ensuring high system functionality.
Installation has been made easier, swifter and less labour-intensive thanks to a series of product design enhancements. The patented open-sided back box – it has no base, top or bottom - and compartment divider knock-outs allow for unhindered access to power and data cabling between adjoining compartments, while the pre-punched bases eliminate the need for drilling and permit the use of nail guns for rapid and secure fixing. Covers can be screw-fixed if desired for installation in school or other anti-vandal environments.
Once the basic installation is in place, completing the job couldn’t be simpler. And what’s more, the entire system has been designed to allow installation by one person, reducing labour costs in the process and freeing up valuable resource for other work.
Troublesome corners that are not exactly 900 are accommodated using flexible internal and external corner mouldings which are adjustable to +/-50, avoiding messy and inaccurate cutting-to-fit. The traditional coupler is also no longer required on corners, tees or flat angles, and only a simple joint cover is required when joining lengths. A single conduit adapter – suitable for 20 and 25mm conduit and mini-trunking – is also available, further enhancing system integration for the contractor, and stock rationalisation for distributors.
Prestige 3D skirting is a logical and stylish development that complements the dado range and represents the ‘best getting even better’ as its raft of fitter-friendly features take ease of installation to a new level; while delivering value and profit opportunities for resellers and contractors alike.
