Electrical safety, why it matters

Published: 25 October 2023 Category: News

With around 1,000 accidents at work every year, many of which involve electricity, most of them could be avoided. 16% of all fatalities from accidents at work are electrical related which is an astounding statistic.

Electrical safety, why it matters

This image shows the type of burn resulting from electric shock or “flashover”. Some injuries can be life changing, and many will result in some long lasting scars. Risk needs to be considered and minimised at all times when working with electricity. Practicing Safe Isolation Procedures help us work towards this.

Who is responsible?

Employers often assume that, once issued, engineers have the right equipment to practice Safe isolation. However with the passage of time and with regular use, this equipment may get lost or broken. It is an engineers responsibility to report loses and breakages and where necessary ask for replacements for his/her own safety.

It is the responsibility of management to conduct regular audits to ensure correct equipment levels.
