EDA Achievement Awards presented

The presentation of the third EDA Training and Development Achievement Awards took place at the Association's Annual Dinner at the Inter-Continental Hotel, London in March:

The awards recognised the accomplishment of students in two categories of the EDA's Training and Development. The presentation was hosted by Nigel Ellis (EDA Director) Chris Palmer (Chairman of the EDA's Training and Development Working Group and Learning Manager of Rexel Senate) and the students received their awards from EDA President, Ray Evans.

Product Knowledge Programme:

The portfolio of Product Knowledge modules are open to people of any age and provide the means to develop and increase product knowledge in a range of product areas. The awards in the Product Knowledge category were sponsored by MOL, who work on the programme in partnership with the EDA. A faculty of Manchester College of Arts & Technology, MOL are one of the UK's largest providers of flexible learning programmes.

Competition in the Product Knowledge category was once again very close. First prize was awarded to Allan Evans of Rexel Senate's Bridport branch, who completed 5 modules during 2004, achieving Distinctions in all 5. Neal Waddington, from Robert Neill in Sheffield, took second place for completing 4 modules, achieving 1 Distinction and 3 Credits. Third prize was presented to Lee Giltinan of Denmans Electrical in Bristol, who completed 3 modules, achieving 2 Distinctions and 1 Credit.

Modern Apprenticeship Programme:

The EDA's range of Modern Apprenticeships provide on-the-job training which is aimed at 16-24 year olds. The awards in the Modern Apprenticeships category were sponsored by Protocol Skills, the largest provider of vocational training in the country, who run the programmes in partnership with the EDA.

First prize was awarded to Bethan Lucas of Denman's Electrical at Cwmbran who completed a Foundation Modern Apprenticeship in Customer Service. Jessica Hudd of Stearn Electric at Bristol also completed a Foundation Modern Apprenticeship in Customer Service and was awarded second prize in this category. Stuart Clarkson of Edmundson Electrical at Irvine took the final prize for his completion of an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Customer Service.
