Q & A of the Day - Where to find information on redundant fire alarms?
Question: Where can I find information regarding redundant fire alarm systems? Also, does BS5389 cover technical aspects of redundant fire alarm systems regarding wiring, installation and an explanation of what it is?

Answer: BS 5839 Part 1: Code of practice for system design, installation, commissioning and maintenance, was first published as a British Standard in January 1980. Over the years it has been revised and amended as and when new installation practices and new technology become more relevant. Consulting the older withdrawn version of the standard will highlight changes that might be installed, but not up to current standard.

With regard to redundant fire alarm systems, all new installation work will need to be carried out to the current standard, and any deviations because of the standard moving on would have to rectified - and the installation brought up to current standards.
