Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This Question of the Day, concerning a chemical plant and the size of the main equipotential bonding conductors, is answered by the ECA:
On site is a separate brick-built gatehouse, which has a three-phase distribution board fed from the main plant via a 4C16mm XLPE/swa cable. The gatehouse has an incoming gas and water supply. Does the main equipotential bond for the gatehouse also have to be 25mm? Also, is it required to go back to the main earthing terminal on site? Or is it OK to have a 10mm main bonding conductor connected to the gatehouse distribution board?
Answer: 10mm main bonding conductors from the gatehouse distribution board main earth bar to the incoming gas and water services is fine.
