Question: When carrying out a close inspection on a petrochemical site that has old and new installations, do we inspect under the DEAR BS EN 60079-17, or also use the FLP (flameproof equipment) Directives?
I have always been under the impression that when inspecting any type of installation, even under BS 7671: 2008, we should inspect to the new additions.
Answer: Hazardous areas should be inspected in accordance with the Electricity at Work Regulations, BS 7671: 2008, and any other relevant standard - subject to the nature of the hazardous area involved.
