Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This Question of the Day, concerning rewiring to the 17th Edition, is answered by the ECA:
Question: With the advent of the 17th Edition, how does this affect the rewiring process of a house, where cables under the floor joists often lay on the ceilings - clearly possible to be contained inside earthed steel conduit, or 50mm from the ceiling finish? Does this mean that all the circuits will have to have RCD protection when installed in this way?
Answer: Yes. Unless the wiring systems meet the protective requirements, in most cases RCD protection will be required on all electrical circuits within dwellings.
