Q & A of the Day – Must I test every ceiling rose/lamp unit in each room?
Question: Having replaced a like-for-like three spot halogen light unit, do I test just the wiring to that unit and its control switch? Or do I have to test every ceiling rose/lamp unit on the circuit (in each room) with regards to continuity of the CPC? Also, do I have to find highest R1+R2 value, so meaning that I have to carry out the Zs test? (I know that the IR test has to be carried out anyway).

I just need clarification, as the cost of labour will increase if testing is carried out at every light outlet, rather than the one replaced. It is not a problem with me to test, but if it is unnecessary, then it will be cheaper for the customer if I don't have to do it.

Answer: Normally, you would only test the replacement fitting, unless requested or agreed to do otherwise. You just need to test the circuit up to the point you have worked on.
