Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This Question of the Day, concerning a building having two REC incoming LV electrical supplies, is answered by the ECA:
Is it possible to use this second supply to serve the new air-conditioning system we are putting in?
Is it just the case of labelling both supplies and the sub-distribution boards in the areas being air-conditioned, together with linking the earthing systems. I'm not aware of anything in the regulations that may stop us considering this.
Answer: It is possible to have two supplies serving a building, subject to the installation being in accordance with BS 7671: 2008 and the local DNO requirements.
Proper labelling is indeed what's needed. A notice at the origin stating the location of the other supply is also a good idea.
