This Question of the Day concerns Part M of the Building Regulations and socket heights. It is answered by the ECA (Theme - Wiring Accessories):
Question: I am about to start a re-wire at a 1950s property, but the client insists that the positioning of the sockets and light switches remains unchanged. Bearing in mind that these do not comply with current min/max height level regulations, can I accept her request? I do not believe that I will get the job if I do not!
Answer: A complete re-wire should comply with Part M of the Building Regulations. If your client requests that you should not to comply, this fact should be recorded in writing and copied back to your client.
