Our Voltimum Experts answer your questions on a daily basis in our Technical Expertise area. This Question of the Day, concerning the 17th Edition and whether there are any meter tail exemptions, is answered by the ECA:
Question: If a set of 2m long meter tails are installed in a domestic situation, for example, straight down from the consumer unit - under the plaster - but at a depth less than 50mm, and then straight through the wall into a meter enclosure, how do they comply with BS7671 522.6.6?
Is there any exemption for meter tails, or do they require to be installed in steel conduit (may be extremely difficult), surface (may not be acceptable to client), etc?
Answer: There is no exemption for meter tails within the 17th Edition.
