When the hit ITV1 show 'With a Little Help from My friends' enlisted the help of cricket legend Phil Tufnell to build a two-storey cricket pavilion for children with special needs in South London, Pirelli Cables donated its market leading FP200 Gold and F
'With a Little Help from My friends', hosted by Linda Barker, features celebrities who have to get their school friends involved in renovation projects for charity but without the help of any celebrity friends or spending any of their own money.
In just seven days, Phil Tufnell arranged a reunion with his old school friends and persuaded them to take part in building the cricket pavilion. The challenge was specially designed for Phil, as the London Community Cricket Association (LCCA) is a cause close to his heart.
Using concrete, bricks, mortar, wood, building tools and the help of a leading UK building contractor, Phil and his team built the pavilion which features a state of the art classroom, specialist changing rooms, a bar area, kitchen and viewing gallery.
The pavilion allows the children to play the game they love, whilst in the classroom they are encouraged to learn essential life skills through their love and interest in the sport. It also provides a welcome change of scene from their home lives and a crucial opportunity to socialise and make new friends.
"LCCA is extremely grateful to Phil Tufnell, Granada Media, Pirelli and all the other companies that enabled the vision to become reality", said Jenny Wostrack, Director of Facilities.
The LCCA is a charity that uses cricket to develop individuals and communities from a variety of recreationally disadvantaged backgrounds. It is funded by a mixture of statutory and charitable grants and is currently looking for corporate support.
