The Electrical Contractors' Association’s (ECA’s) Variations, payment and recovery of additional costs course covers the finer points of Variations, and illustrates how to value a claim and how to present it to ensure that delegates get paid. This course has been designed for owners, directors, managers, engineers and their representatives involved in the administration of contracts.

The course objectives:

By the end of the course, participants will:

  • Be able to recognise a variation and maximise the value of it.
  • Be aware of the pricing rules for variations in standard forms.
  • Be able to value a claim. Have an understanding of how to present and negotiate a claims situation.

The course content:

  • The contractual provision for variations.
  • How to value a variation and when daywork can be used.
  • Payment provisions in the standard forms.
  • Claims for prolongation and disruption including global claims, recognising a claim situation early and the importance of records.
  • Presentation and negotiation of claims.
  • End of course assessment.
