Regulation 421.1.201 in Amendment 3 to the wiring regulations calls for non combustible enclosures on consumer units and similar switchgear. Similar switchgear includes switchgear that is used for the same fundamental purpose as consumer units i.e. circuit protection applications within domestic household premises.
For this purpose Wylex have introduced a new range of Domestic Switch Fuse products in non combustible all metal enclosures and these units meet the requirements of the relevant product standards and those of BS7671 Amendment 3 Wiring Regulations.
Domestic switch fuse units are often used for protection of sub mains cabling in apartment block applications, particularly where larger single occupancy buildings are being converted into several individual apartments. Wylex, market leader in domestic circuit protection products recognizes the fact that electrical contractors have a need for these items as well as all metal consumer units so that installation can be completed to the latest regulations in BS7671 that is mandatory from January 1st 2016.
There are 3 ratings in the range that are supplied complete with fuse, 100A, 80A and 63A, an unfused version can also be purchased as can 40A, 45A & 50A fuse links to cater for other applicable rating requirements.
These robust all metal switch fuse units are supplied complete with fuse that sits within and easy open rotating fuse drawer mechanism to make access for fuse change easy and quick. The switch also incorporates a locking location to aid secure isolation practices.
These new units feature dual screw terminals on L and N connections (similar to meter connections) that will accept cables up to a maximum of 35 Sqmm and minimum of 16 Sqmm, integral earth terminals are 16mm max.
The enclosure is finished in low smoke & fume paint includes a metal door that is screw retained, Cable access can be made through the 32mm knockouts that are provided for fast installation & ease of cabling and these are compatible with the Wylex EIU mains tails gland that automatically provides mechanical protection, added insulation, and the necessary IP rating for cable entries and compliance with BS7671.
