Trauma can affect anyone, regardless of background. Many abuse survivors, like Michael, struggle in silence, unsure where to turn. Michael contacted the EIC after an abusive relationship left him housebound, anxious, and using smoking as a coping mechanism.

Michael’s previous experience with counselling was disheartening. His trauma was misidentified as grief, leaving him feeling dismissed. But when he contacted the EIC, everything changed.
The Charity responded with compassion, recognising the complexity of his experience. A case manager helped develop a tailored support plan, addressing both emotional trauma and unhealthy coping habits. Michael was offered ten sessions with a trauma informed therapist, creating a safe space to process his experiences without judgement.
With consistent, specialist support, Michael began to rebuild his confidence, manage his anxiety, and re-engage with life. EIC remained a constant presence throughout his recovery.
Michael's transformation shows the power of timely, professional intervention. His recovery was possible because specialised support was available when he needed it most.
