What is the key difference between limitation and not verified on EICR?

Published: 4 June 2020 Category: Q&A

Our ECA expert answers a question from a Voltimum user on EICR Schedule of Inspection BS 7671.

What is the key difference between limitation and not verified on EICR?

Question:

On the EICR schedule of inspections of BS7671 it states a classification of Not verified, could you please advise on the circumstance this is to be used and the key difference between not verified and a limitation?

Answer:

A limitation is something that is either not part of the inspection or there is limited ability to inspect.  Usuallly a Lim is something that is agreed prior to an inspection, or is agreed operationally throughout the inspection.

An NV would be something that is wholly not inspected and was not discussed with the client.

Personally I find the option of NV a tricky one to justify.  It would hint that the inspector is is not doing something, though it doesn't really state why (unless clarified on the report).

Hopefully future iterations of BS 7671 will have a simpler set of terms for this.
