Question: Can you please advise as to whether there is any statutory regulation requiring the provision of independent wire suspensions (fixed to the building structure) to provide supplementary/additional support for 600 x 600mm recessed lay-in modular luminaires installed in a suspended T-grid ceiling?

Answer:
There is no statutory requirement however BS 7671:2008 (which is not statutory).

Regulation 559.6.1.5 'Fixing of the luminaire' requires the following: 'Adequate means to fix the luminaire shall be provided' and that 'the weight of the luminaires shall be compatible with the mechanical capability of the suspended ceiling.
